Among the many competitions that test a man’s strength and endurance, there is something called the Wife Carrying World Championship. Yes, you guessed it right. Just as the name goes, the man has to carry his wife on his shoulders. The Wife Carrying Championship is considered one of the 7 most bizarre ‘feats of strength’ events in the world. The championship last year attracted 80 competitors who headed to the small town of Sonkajärvi, Finland.

The rule of the game states that men must carry their wives or their neighbors to the competition. The so-called “wife” representative should be above 17 years of age and weigh at least 49 kilograms. However, if the designated wife weighs less, then she must carry a weighted rucksack.

As a mark of appreciation for this great feat of strength, the world champions win the equivalent of the wife’s weight in beer, a bag full of wife-carrying merchandise, and an official logo statue.

Moreover, special prizes for second and third couples, as well as the most entertaining couple, best costume, and strongest carrier, are offered. What’s more surprising is that there seems to be a “Team Wife Carrying Relay” where three men participating in the race exchange the wife as baton.
