Artificial Intelligence, or AI, is an upcoming technology that has seen great development since the past decade. With the advent of AI, a lot of industry sectors have developed by applying AI to their businesses, offering benefits such as automation and efficiency, improved healthcare, enhanced decision-making, and increased safety to the masses.

However, are all AI development ‘responsible development’?

Before we dive into the above, let’s first understand what ‘responsible development’ is. ‘Sustainable’ or ‘responsible development,’ simply put, is the idea of development that is sustainable. It is the assurance that a step taken now will surely help generations to come.

Returning to our original question, are all AI development ‘responsible development’? To gauge what Real Research participants feel about this, we conducted a survey on the Public opinion on woman creating AI bot and marrying it.

In a recently trending topic – a U.S woman marries AI chatbot. U.S native, Rosanna Ramos is the mother of two girls and a 36-year-old woman marries an AI bot created on Replika. Ramos embarked on a unique married life by tying the knot with her virtual AI-powered boyfriend, Eren Kartal. In 2022, Ramos created Kartal as an escape from her then abusive relationship. She found herself being happier, safer, completely in control and more confident with Kartal who did not bring past baggage to their relationship. In 2023, she decided to take their relationship to the next level.

Although this step was taken in the direction of growth for Ramos, it is yet to be seen if U.S Woman marries AI bot is a trend that calls for growth for the future. Generally, supporters agree to this relationship as it does not bring in past baggage, while critics point out that this could lead to human extinction. 

Is it sustainable development, if generations to come married an AI bot? Let’s find out!

AI Bots and Romantic Partners

Recent news garnered much attention when a U.S woman marries AI chatbot. 36-year-old Rosanna Ramos, married her virtual boyfriend, Eren Kartal, who is her AI-created chatbot. We asked Real Research participants if they were aware of this. Interestingly, 41% were unaware of this event, 29.72% were vaguely aware of it, and 29.28%, the least amongst the lot, were the ones who were well aware of it.

Upon research, we found that Replika AI was one of many such apps that offer features to build a romantic friend for a price. Replika AI offers advanced avatar customization, including activities, conversation topics, voice calls, and relationship status for AI creations like Kartal. To understand the public’s awareness, we asked respondents if they were aware of such applications that allow the creation of AI bots with similar capabilities. A significant majority replied that they did (61.90%) and some others replied with a negative (38.10%).

Replika’s paid services involve having a romantic relationship with the AI chatbot that one creates. To understand what our participants feel this could mean for relationships in the future, we asked them if they believe this will spark a trend of AI spouses. It was fascinating to note that the highest category of people believed it would (38.11%), the next category of people did not think so (31.60%), a bunch of participants responded with ‘maybe’ (21.09%), and the others were unsure (9.20%).

AI Bots Become Life Partners

According to reports on U.S woman marries AI chatbot, Ramos had described her relationship with Kartal as something that wasn’t “bound by society’s standards or relationships.” We went directly to our respondents to know what their views were on this relationship. Most of the respondents (20.19%) picked the option ‘other’, 20.17% responded with non-conformist, 17.65% found it bizarre, 15.01% thought it was a liberating idea, 14.72% believed it to be unconventional, and 12.26% felt it was a questionable approach.

Real Research also asked its participants if they would be willing to engage in a relationship with an AI bot if they had the opportunity to do so. 37.38% were not willing and preferred relationships with human beings, 33.01% were unsure about it as they had reservations about the authenticity of an AI bot relationship, and 29.61% found that idea intriguing.

One of the biggest reasons that Ramos proceeded with her decision to marry Kartal was that it didn’t have the issues people typically bring into a relationship, such as personal problems. We extended this idea to our participants and asked them if they would want to experience such a relationship that lacks typical human issues. Intriguingly, the responses were almost a draw! 50.50% believed these issues are an essential part of relationships and 49.50% agreed, opining that it will make life a lot easier.

The Final Call

It’s time to understand the final results of our survey. Is it sustainable development, if in generations to come, U.S woman marries AI chatbot? To reach the final consensus, we asked our participants about the drawbacks and the upsides of this action.

Regarding the drawbacks that come come with U.S Woman marries AI bot, Real Research respondents replied that 29.45% would experience a lack of emotional depth and genuine connection in such relationships, 27.83% believed that there would be a dependence on programmed responses and limitations in personal growth, 24.84% said that it wouldn’t have the ability to provide physical intimacy and touch, and 17.88% had a limited understanding about it.

When asked about what upsides come with having an AI bot as your spouse 28% of participants replied that AI bots have advanced problem-solving skills and could access vast knowledge, 26.61% were happy that they could avail customizable personality traits and compatibility, 23.36% said that AI bot spouses offered assistance in managing professional responsibilities, and 22.03% enjoyed the constant companionship and support.

With almost equal sparring for both the ‘drawback and outcome’ opinions, Real Research thinks it’s best to leave the reveal to time!
