On July 24, TikTok, the most popular short-form content video platform, shared its newest update, introducing text-based posts. They stated they are looking to empower their creators with innovative tools that inspire self-expression.

Curious about the update and people’s reaction, Real Research, an online survey app, launched a survey on TikTok’s Text-Only Posts.

In their recent update, TikTok allowed posts of up to 1000 characters as they thought it would expand the boundaries of content creation. 54.92% of respondents were aware of TikTok’s new text-only feature, 30.05% were vaguely familiar, and 15.03% weren’t aware.

People’s opinions varied on their stance on TikTok’s text-only posts, 43.92% were neutral about it, 33.4% supported it, and 22.68% opposed it.

People’s Reactions to TikTok’s Text-Only Posts

There are over 100 thousand TikTok influencers around the world. Influencers share videos about entertainment, pranks, fitness, Do-it-yourself (DIY), and much more. 47.78% of respondents believed that TikTok’s text-only posts would make a good addition to its traditional video and photo content, 33.63% were unsure, and 18.59% didn’t think it would make a good addition.

Nearly half of the respondents (46.97%) believed that the text-only post feature would add value and expand the creative possibilities on the platform, 21.61% thought the opposite, and 31.42% remained neutral about it.

TikTok users can describe videos up to 2,200 characters and comment up to 150 characters. TikTok’s text-only posts have a character limit of 1,000, of which 36.43% thought that the limit should be longer, 34.9% thought it should be shorter, and 28.67% thought no changes were needed.

As social media platforms are changing each day, with Meta’s new Threads and Twitter getting rebranded as X, 48.25% thought the introduction of text posts on TikTok is a response to the changing landscape of social media and competition from other platforms. Meanwhile, 32.38% weren’t sure if it was a response and 19.37% disagreed.
