Pets are a man’s companion for multiple reasons. They provide companionship to those who are lonely, stressed, or have mental health issues. They also provide protection and just unconditional love. In addition to pets at home, many are contemplating the need for office pets.

Accordingly, Real Research — the online survey app launched a survey seeking public opinions on the need for office pets. Specifically, the survey aims to find the advantages and disadvantages of having pets in the workplace. It also seeks to find the kind of office pets society would prefer to have, and more. Here are the results.

The Majority Are Fans of Animals

The survey on the need for office pets starts with a question of whether respondents have pets at home. In response, 76.99% say they do and 23.01% say they do not.

Next, the survey asks whether respondents are fans of animals. In reply, 58.40% say ‘yes, I prefer them to humans’ while 23.11% say ‘yes, but not as pets’. Furthermore, 9.35% say ‘no, I am scared of animals’. Lastly, 8.01% say ‘no, they are noisy and messy’.

Next, the survey on the need for office pets asks respondents whether offices should have pets. In response, the majority (69.23%) say ‘yes’ while 30.77% say ‘no’.

Further on, the survey asks ‘what is the advantage of an office pet?’. To this, a majority of 47.95% say higher morale while 15.42% feel having an office pet reduces stress. Moreover, 9.95% believe pets are good for PR whereas, 5.98% feel that it draws customer appeal. A further 4.87% say it improves focus and productivity and 4.09% feel it improves collaboration.

Possible Disadvantages of an Office Pet

Accordingly, the survey asks respondents what is the disadvantage of an office pet. All 52.82% suggest that some employees do not like pets, while 12.69% say pet allergies disrupt workflow. Moreover, 9.15% feel they can be distracting and create a mess. Meanwhile, 8.23% feel pet care costs can be a possible concern and 5.30% feel employees must take turns taking care of the pet. Lastly, 4.80% feel the pet can feel lonely when the office is busy or during holidays.

The survey then asks respondents what kind of office pet they would want to have? A majority of 48.27% say dogs, while 15.70% prefer cats. Moreover, 12.13% prefer fish as office pets, and 9.89% like birds. A further 4.33% like amphibians (frog, toad, salamander). Lastly, 4% like rodents (hamster, hedgehog, rabbit).

To conclude, the need for office pets survey asks respondents about the need for multiple office pets. All 51.51% think offices should not have a single office pet. On the other hand, 28.94% feel 1 office pet is enough. Moreover, 11.49% believe between 2-4 pets are okay depending on the size of the company. Lastly, 8.06% want a whole room filled with all types of pets.
