Recently, concerns about Climate change and global warming have brought on global concerns about its possible repercussions. One consequence is the rise in sea levels among many others. The rising sea levels can endanger the lives and inhabitants of rather smaller countries and islands. For instance, countries like the Maldives are especially at risk of being drowned.

To specify, various Maldivian islands are already seeing rising sea levels. This is concerning to the locals who live and reside in the area as these islands can be submerged by seawater. Houses, schools, restaurants, and more are mainly at risk. Thus, some of the world’s renowned architects and engineers sought solutions to tackle the pressing issue of rising sea levels.

The solution implemented and carried out now in multiple countries globally is floating cities. Floating cities are colonies or groups of cities and communities made to ‘float’ on the sea itself rather than on lands. These cities specifically manufactured in some of the islands in the Maldives are set to inhabit up to 20,000+ residents, featuring housing units, schools, restaurants, etc. The solution was initially seen as risky or questionable as many were concerned about the stability and safety of these floating cities. Later, the architects responsible countered that these floating cities will be ‘grounded’ on the sea and fashioned in a way where these cities will rise in cases of rising sea levels.

The idea of a floating city and residing in a floating city has nevertheless, gathered numerous opinions. Some express opinions of concern, while others express opinions of excitement and awe. Thus, Real Research launched a survey on the floating city in the Maldives seeking public opinions on the same.
