Recently, the Turkish government requested a change of the country’s official name from ‘Turkey’ to ‘Türkiye’. The move came as a request in a letter to the United Nations. The official name was changed with immediate effect and is now ‘Türkiye’. The name ‘Turkey’ is written in Turkish as it was in 1923, following the declaration of independence.
