With so many destinations to choose from, it can be challenging to decide where to go. That’s why Real Research conducted a survey on top summer travel destinations for 2023. The survey aimed to provide insights into travelers’ preferences, interests, and the factors that influence their travel decisions.

By gathering this information, Real Research, an online survey app, hopes to help travelers make informed decisions and create unforgettable travel experiences.

Here are the key findings of the survey report:

  • A majority (87.33%) of respondents plan on traveling this summer of 2023
  • The cost of travel and accommodations (47.9%) is the most important factor influencing travel decisions
  • Hotels are the most preferred type of accommodation when traveling by 24.71% of respondents

Travel Plans: Domestic or International Travel?

Summer is a perfect time to explore new destinations, relax and enjoy the sunshine. The survey results show that a majority (87.33%) of respondents plan on traveling this year’s summer.

Of these respondents, 40.76% plan to travel domestically, 22.83% plan to travel internationally, and 36.4% plan to travel both. The rest (12.67%) have no plans on traveling this summer.

The top summer travel destinations for 2023 that respondents would like to visit are Thailand (8.06%), the USA (6.81%), Japan (6.43%), Singapore (5.24%), Canada (5.2%), Australia (4.87%), United Arab Emirates (4.24%), and France (4.07%).

Factors That Influence Travel Decisions

The survey found that the cost of travel and accommodations (47.9%) is the most important factor influencing travel decisions, followed by the availability of flights and transportation options (18.44%), activities to do at the destination (10.51%), scenic attractions and natural beauty (8.58%).

Type of Accommodation

When it comes to preferred types of accommodation when traveling, hotels (24.71%) are the most preferred, followed by resorts (17.15%), vacation rentals such as Airbnb and Vrbo (12.24%), camping (10.03%), and hostels (9.99%).

Travel Companions

The survey on travel destinations for 2023 also found that 42.84% of respondents preferred to travel with family, followed by friends at 25.04%. The rest (18.03%) prefer to travel by themselves.

Preferred Activities

When traveling to summer destinations, respondents are most interested in sightseeing and exploring local attractions such as museums, historical sites, and landmarks (19.94%), followed by food and dining experiences (16.39%), beach activities (13.5%), outdoor activities like camping, biking, and kayaking (12.17%), and cultural experiences such as festivals, music, and art (11.97%).

Budget

In terms of budget, the survey found that 33.41% of respondents had a budget of less than $500 for their summer travel destinations for 2023. 27.18% have a budget of $500-$1000, 18.25% have a budget of $1000-$2000, and 8.62% have a budget of $2000-$3000. Only 2.72% of respondents have a budget of more than $5000.

Preferred Destinations: Popular vs. Off-the-beaten-path

Finally, when it comes to choosing between popular summer destinations and off-the-beaten-path locations, the survey found that 14.96% of respondents prefer popular destinations, while 13.52% prefer off-the-beaten-path locations.

However, most respondents (21.94%) said it depends on the specific destination, while 16.63% said it depends on other factors such as cost and convenience. Additionally, 17.52% of respondents said they do not have a preference when it comes to travel destinations.
