The World Happiness Report for 2024 is out!

The survey draws data from more than 140 countries, ranking the people based on their average life evaluations over the last three years. The report focuses on six variables to assist the person’s happiness: GDP per capita, social support, healthy life expectancy, freedom, generosity, and perceptions of corruption.

This year’s report separated rankings by age group, leading to shocking discoveries. The youngsters in North America are now less happy than the older generations. This piece of data drove the United States out of the top 20 for the first time.

John Helliwell, professor of economics and a founding editor of the World Happiness Report, believes that the low scores among the young are due to the media they are exposed to. He said, “They’re hearing news that’s making them unhappy and they may be sharing it and that may make them unhappy too.”

The professor added that people in North America are fighting over “rights, responsibilities, and who should be doing what to improve things and who is to blame for things not going well in the past.”
