At Google I/O 2024, the world got its first glimpse of Project Astra, a multimodal AI assistant poised to change how we interact with technology. Google promises that Project Astra will be the most powerful, advanced type of AI assistant it’s ever launched.

Developed by Google’s parent company, Alphabet, Project Astra is built on an upgraded version of its Gemini AI model. Alphabet says Project Astra will be more advanced than current chatbots, offering real-time interaction with computer vision technology.

Recognizing the potential of Project Astra, Real Research conducted a poll to gauge public interest in this highly anticipated AI tool.

The Next Big Thing in AI?

The survey revealed a population that’s both aware and optimistic about Google’s latest creation. Nearly 70% of respondents were familiar with Project Astra, and an even higher percentage (71.38%) expressed confidence in Google’s ability to deliver on its promises.

Cool Features, Real-World Uses

One of the most intriguing aspects of Project Astra is its ability to seamlessly integrate into daily life. The survey indicates that the majority (68.44%) find Project Astra’s features like object and face recognition, mood detection, and misplaced item location highly relevant.

In detail, the breakdown of public preferences highlights a near-equal interest in the various functionalities: real-time interaction (29.08%), computer vision (21.28%), cross-device integration (27.46%), and advanced task management (22.18%).

For these features, many (68.82%) believe in Alphabet’s claim that Project Astra will surpass current chatbots in the market.

Furthermore, the potential for Project Astra to extend beyond smartphones and desktops has ignited public enthusiasm. Nearly 69% are excited about the possibility of Project Astra being embedded in smart glasses and other wearable devices.

Race for AI Supremacy: Are You Ready for Project Astra?

Google’s launch of Astra aims to showcase its AI advancements and address criticism of lagging behind rivals. The Astra launch follows recent product releases and upgraded AI models from big tech rivals, including Meta, Microsoft, and OpenAI.

For this reason, 54.84% believe that Google’s primary aim is to be a leader in AI innovation. However, the rest (45.16%) view it primarily as a move to compete with competitors.

More so, the timing of the launch is perceived positively by a majority (63.44%) as a sign of a healthy competitive landscape that will ultimately benefit users. Building on this positive sentiment, 67% indicated a strong likelihood of using Astra once it becomes available.
