Traveling to space, exploring the world beyond the world has been a life-long mission and a dream for many. Elon Musk — an avid pioneer of technology, came up with a prototype of his Starship back in 2019. Musk’s human mission to mars has sparked inspiration in many, and concern in others.

Thus, Real Research — the online survey app, conducted a survey seeking public opinions on a trip to Mars. Here are the results.

Highlights

  • 74.98% are aware of the Starship prototype reveal in 2019.
  • 47.58% feel Mars being less crowded will be an advantage of moving to Mars.
  • 63.51% find the animation of a trip to Mars by SpaceX to be ‘amazing’.

Respondents Find the Starship Reveal To Be ‘Amazing’

The survey starts by asking whether respondents are aware of the Starship prototype reveal by Elon Musk in 2019. The majority (74.98%) are aware, while 14.14% ‘have heard about it, but don’t know much’, and 10.89% have not heard about it.

Carrying forth, the survey asks whether respondents have seen the animation of a trip to Mars. The majority (63.51%) say ‘yes, it is the most amazing thing right now’ while 14.21% have heard from people but did not watch it. Moreover, 13.80% say they haven’t seen it, while 2.14% say they find it to be ridiculous as they do not believe it to be possible.

Next, the survey asks if respondents would like to move to Mars for good. On this, most respondents (43.35%) say ‘definitely, I am so ready’, while 23.80% say ‘it is good to have an option, but have not thought about it yet’. In contrast, 11.07% don’t think it’s possible, while 4.36% suggest ‘everyone moving to Mars will eventually die’. However, 15.55% say ‘never, I love Earth’.

Further on, the survey asks respondents about the advantages of moving to Mars. Almost half of the respondents (47.58%) say ‘the planet will be less crowded’ whereas 19.80% say ‘we can define a new meaning in life’, and 14.48% feel Earth will be pollution-free. Adding on, 10.07% say ‘we can live independently’ whereas 4.75% say ‘the pioneers will have great work opportunities there’.

Accordingly, the survey also asks what the disadvantages of moving to Mars would be. The majority (47.90%) say ‘absence of family or friends’. Meanwhile, 13.78% say ‘even if I make huge money, there will be no place to spend it’.

Likewise, 11.58% say ‘most people will die as no one knows what is going to happen there’. Furthermore, 10.03% suggest it must be ‘very expensive’. Finally, 4.34% say ‘Mars will take centuries to develop as a human colony’.

Next, the survey asks respondents ‘would you trust starship to take you to mars?’. The majority 51.41% say ‘absolutely, after the success of Tesla’ while 14.55% say ‘no, there is no certainty in reaching Mars’. Moreover, 9.50% say ‘I am not going to Mars’ and 8.08% will wait for other options to take them there.

To conclude, the survey asks if respondents would like a sponsored trip to Mars. The majority (55.22%) say they are willing to go to Mars as long as they don’t have to spend money. This leaves 19.08% who say ‘no matter how big the funds are, it will not convince me to go’.
