With time, music and types of music streaming platforms have evolved. For instance, it has become a culture for people to listen to music on their phones and music consoles. Music streaming is the distribution of music in real-time via a service or platform. Also, some of the popular music services used by everyone are Spotify, YouTube Music, Apple Music, and Amazon Music. However, as the popularity of music streaming grows, so do consumers’ needs, likes, and preferences.

Accordingly, Real Research — the online survey app launched a survey seeking public opinions on music streaming platforms, and their preferences. The survey also aims to find out the most preferred music streaming platforms respondents use and why.

Public Opinions on Music Streaming Platforms

The survey on music streaming platforms asks whether respondents use a music streaming service. In response, a whopping 90.15% say yes, and 9.85% say no. Next, the survey asks respondents why music streaming services are not used. In reply, 27.32% say that it’s expensive, and 22.16% say ‘I download music’. Similarly, 14.52% replied ‘I can listen to music for free.’ A further 12.54% say ‘I don’t really listen to music,’ and 12.35% say ‘it is difficult and inconvenient to use the app’.

Next, the survey asks how much time respondents spend streaming music daily. In reply, 51.49% spend less than 30 minutes while 17.32% spend 30 minutes – 1 hour. Furthermore, 13.22% say 1-2 hours’, and 5.40% say 2-3 hours, whereas 4.57% spend more than 5 hours.

Accordingly, the survey asks if respondents have ever used the trial of a music streaming platform; 83.34% say yes, whereas 16.66% say no. Similarly, the survey asks if respondents switched to a paid service after ending the trial period. In reply, a majority of 83.68% successfully renewed their paid service, whereas 16.32% did not.

Types of Music Streaming Platforms

Next, the survey seeking public opinions on music streaming platforms asks what factors influence respondents the most. In response, the majority (56.57%) say price, and 9.10% chose the amount of music. Moreover, 8.99% say the variety of music types matters most, and 8.49% chose sound quality. Accordingly, 3.62% and 3.52% consider the ‘ease of using the app’ and ‘music charts’ influential factors, respectively.

Next, the survey asks ‘which music streaming platform you mainly use’. A majority of 50.84% say Spotify, while 27.17% say YouTube Music. Moreover, 8.18% chose Apple Music, and 6.65% use Amazon Music. A further 5.40% also use Tencent Music. Upon asking the respondents how reasonable the subscription fee is, 51.08% think it is ‘very reasonable’. 21.52% are neutral about it, and 15.90% think it is ‘reasonable’. On the contrary, 6.11% think it is ‘unreasonable’, and 5.39% feel it is ‘very unreasonable’.

Accordingly, the survey asks respondents about the varied types of music streaming platforms used. In reply, 50.77% say they are very varied, and 20.45% are neutral towards the platforms. Whereas 18.55% believe them to be varied and 5.18% believe them to be very unvaried. Next, the survey asks about the satisfaction with the music streaming platform’s sound quality. 50.75% of respondents are ‘very satisfied, 20% are neutral, and 18.66% are ‘satisfied’. Moreover, 5.42% feel ‘very unsatisfied,’ and 5.17% are unsatisfied with their music streaming platform.

Public Preference for Music Streaming Platforms

Further on, the survey asks about respondents’ satisfaction with the music streaming platform’s recommendation system. All 51.04% feel very satisfied, 20.59% are neutral, and 18.26% are satisfied. In contrast, 5.23% are unsatisfied, and 4.87% are very unsatisfied with the recommendation system. Moreover, the survey asks about the app usability of the music streaming platform. In reply, 49.08% are very satisfied, and 20.97% are neutral,  while 5.47% are unsatisfied.

Next, when asked about satisfaction with the music streaming platform’s app design, 49.77% say they are satisfied. 20.69% are neutral, and 18.84% are satisfied. In comparison, 5.37% and 5.34% feel unsatisfied and very unsatisfied. Then the survey asks respondents about their favorite feature while streaming; in reply, 39.05% say music recommendation system. 17.84% say playlist creation, 11.25% say music charts, and 11.14% chose video.

Accordingly, the survey asks what you would like to add or improve to the streaming platform. All 57.72% chose ‘cheaper price’, 10.42% suggest improved music recommendation features, and 6.72% wanted improved app usability. Lastly, the survey asks if respondents were to switch platforms, what would it be. 53.14% would switch to ‘Spotify’, 21.84% chose ‘YouTube Music’, and 10.19% say ‘Apple Music’. Whereas 8.41% pick ‘Amazon Music’, and 5.40% say ‘Tencent Music’.
