McKinsey & Company developed a global survey of nearly 900 c-level worldwide leaders to understand how companies adapted technologically during the pandemic COVID-19. Published in October 2020, the research aims to be able to understand the technological impact after an already significant period of crisis.

  • Companies have increased their speed in technological development as they had never thought before COVID-19.
  • McKinsey questioned nearly 900 c-level executives to see the answer to the industry’s technological demands.
  • The demand of users in digital technologies accelerated technology demand in several years.

The study entitled ‘How COVID-19 has pushed companies over the technology tipping point — and transformed business forever’ the survey that was conducted from July 7 to July 31 served to realize that nearly all the companies involved were capable of standing up at least temporary solutions to meet many of the new demands on the market. The c-level respondents further clarified that technological adaptation was much faster than they could have imagined before the crisis.

On the other hand, the study also found that during the pandemic, consumers had moved dramatically toward online channels, and companies and industries have responded in turn. The same research also shows that that rates of adoption are years ahead from the previous surveys were conducted — this can be seen in the chart below.
