April fool’s day is a popular, annual custom falling on the April 1. It is meant to be celebrated with practical jokes, pranks, hoaxes, etc. The history of April fool’s day is unknown, but it has been celebrated for centuries. The day has become exceptionally popular among mass media and culture.

While some play light, harmless jokes, and pranks, others can take it a little too far. Moreover, people generally have multiple activities and types of fun they plan on April Fool’s Day. Thus, Real Research — the online survey app, conducted a survey on April Fool’s Day. The survey seeks public opinions on the type of jokes played, reasons respondents play April Fool’s Day pranks, etc. Here are the results.

Majority Have Played April Fool’s Day Pranks

The survey starts by asking if respondents have ever played April Fool’s Day pranks. To this, all 80.85% said ‘yes’ and 19.15% said ‘no’. Next, the survey asks if respondents are going to play pranks this April Fool’s Day. In response, 71.12% said ‘yes’ while 28.88% said ‘no’.

Further, the survey questions how respondents are going to play pranks. The majority (53.30%) say via text message/mobile messenger app. Moreover, 22.87% say via social media and 19.31% will play pranks in person. Lastly, 4.07% will play pranks by using other people.

Types of April Fool’s Day Pranks

Additionally, the survey also questions respondents about the type of pranks they usually play on April Fool’s Day. The majority (46.23%) say ‘a love confession’ while 12.28% say ‘prank calls’. Meanwhile, 9.37% compliments about looks, 9.17% say white lies, and 5.96% joke about winning a lottery. In contrast, 9.71% have never played pranks on April Fool’s Day.

Next, the survey asks respondents who they play April Fool’s Day pranks on. Here, 37.61% say they play pranks on their spouse/partner, 25.81% play pranks on friends, and 11.26% prank their boyfriend/girlfriend. A further 4.34% suggest colleagues while 2.69% play pranks on kids, and 2.39% prank family members.

The Majority of Respondents Find April Fool’s Day Pranks Entertaining

Further on, the survey asks respondents how they find April Fool’s Day pranks. The majority (44.23%) find them to be ‘entertaining’ while 23.99% find pranks to be ‘funny’. Meanwhile, 9.09% say pranks are ‘naughty’ and 6.38% feel April Fool’s Day pranks are ‘childish’. Lastly, 3.58% say pranks are ‘impressive’, 3.29% say ‘confusing’, and 3.27% say ‘annoying’.

Additionally, the survey asks respondents why they think people play pranks on April Fool’s Day. In response, 69.61% say to have fun, 11.66% say to attract others’ attention, and 8.98% say to get away with certain situations. Lastly, 8.59% play pranks on April Fool’s Day to have good relationships.

Lastly, the survey asks respondents what they think about the custom of April Fool’s Day. In reply, 46.42% say ‘any kind of prank can be played and accepted’. Some 15.78% say ‘it should be forgiven as long as the pranks are not serious or over the top’. Moreover, 13.58% feel ‘the pranks should be enjoyable and make others laugh’ whereas 6.16% say ‘April Fool’s Day should be banned’. Lastly, some 3.87% feel playing pranks on others is ‘weird’.
