Around the world, different types of sports are being participated in and supported by people. Among these sports is cricket. Based on the number of players registered on various cricket leagues and those who have been playing unofficially, cricket is among the most-played sports worldwide.

Mainly, the majority of participants of this sport come from Australia, India, Pakistan, South Africa, and the UK. Moreover, the International Cricket Council (ICC) states that over 100 countries around the world play the sport.

In a survey of 1,000 participants, Real Research targeted the most active countries in terms of cricket. Covering demographics of both males and females aged 29 to 59, this survey is dominated by men (76%) with women accounting for 24% of the total respondents. Overall, the 29-39 age group is more interested to share their cricket preferences, with over 600 respondents under this bracket.

We can therefore conclude, based on the demographics, the men are more inclined to participate in the topic involving cricket than women. In addition, the millennials are more fascinated about cricket than other age groups. This may be in line with the fact that 29-39-year-olds tend to be more engaged in physical activities such as sports.

Over 65% of Respondents Are Cricket Fans

With this Real Research survey, 653 respondents confirm that they are indeed fans of cricket. On the other hand, 155 respondents affirmed that they like the game but do not consider themselves fans. Game fanatics usually spend time monitoring the games religiously and show their support actively, either through word-of-mouth or in social media.

On the contrary, 111 respondents answered that they don’t like cricket. Besides, 81 respondents claim that they do not know anything about this game.

Cricket Fans Favorite: Indian Premier League

Cricket fans around the world have their own favorite cricket league to support. From the flagship Twenty20 International (T20) leagues around the world, Real Research asked which among the most famous cricket leagues are their favorites.

Indian Premier League (IPL) gets the most votes from almost 60% of all respondents. IPL 2020 teams consist of Mumbai Indians (trophy holder), Kolkata Knight Riders, Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Rajasthan Royals, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Kings XI Punjab.

Coming in second is the Big Bash League (BBL), an Australian professional T20 cricket league established in 2011 by Cricket Australia. 17% of the respondents choose BBL as their favorite.

More so, the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) ranks third. It is the only cricketing tournament in the region. It gets rank among the top due to its popularity and entertainment value.

Less than 10% of the respondents chose the Champions League Twenty20 (CLT20) as their favorite. This cricket league was discontinued due to a lack of interest among fans and sponsors. Previously, it featured the best-performing teams from domestic T20 cricket leagues such as IPL and BBL.

Unsurprisingly, over 30% of the respondents prefer the Twenty20 International (T20I) as the form of cricket wherein two international members of the ICC play against each other. 25% of the respondents prefer T20  leagues. Meanwhile, One Day International (ODI) and tests have less than 20% of the votes, individually.

Best Male and Female Cricketers: Virat Kohli and Enid Bakewell

In this Real Research survey app results, the majority of respondents voted Virat Kohli and Enid Bakewell as the best male and female cricketers of all times.

His records show the best ever Test rating (937 points), ODI rating (911 points), and T20I rating (897 points) for a cricket player.

Enid Bakewell is a champion woman cricketer who played for the English women’s cricket team. She led in 12 Tests between 1968 and 1979 as well as 23 one-day international matches. She has set the record for the highest opening run partnership in the history of the Women’s Cricket World Cup.

Babar Azam, a Pakistani cricketer (15%); Kane Williamson, a New Zealander cricketer (13%); and Steven Smith, an Australian cricketer (11.2%) followed Kohli as the best male cricketers according to the respondents’ opinions.

Sandhya Agarwal, an Indian cricketer (18.6%); Janette Brittin, an England cricketer (18%); and Sara Taylor, an English cricketer (11.1%) were among the best female cricketers for the respondents.

More than 50% Will Choose Cricket Over Other Ball Sports

With billions of fans around the world, more than 50% of the respondents revealed that they will choose cricket over other ball sports. From a global perspective, cricket actually ranks on top of basketball, hockey, tennis, and volleyball in terms of audience, viewership on television, popularity on the internet, number of professional leagues, and the average salary of athletes.

In line with this, almost 60% of the respondents ‘strongly agree’ and ‘agree’ that cricketers are overpaid. Among all the highest-paid cricket players in the world, the top ones include Virat Kohli with a $4 million base salary; MS Dhoni with a $3.5 million base salary; and Rohit Sharma with a $3 million base salary. Kohli’s overall earnings even reach almost $30 million including endorsements and sponsorships from Audi, Google, Puma, and Flipkart.

Cricket: An Important Part of Indian Culture

Without a doubt, the Real Research survey results have proven that cricket is best played in India. 60% of the total respondents agree with this statement. Thus, Indians are known to be among the best cricketers in the world.

In conclusion, Cricket is a popular sport in India liked by the majority. Among the reasons why cricket has been a staple part of India’s tradition is its simplicity, the outstanding performance of domestic cricket leagues, world-class cricketing legends, and the availability of cricket training coaching centers for both kids and adults.

Showing its prowess in the field of cricket, the 2021 ICC Men’s Twenty20 World Cup & 2023 Cricket World Cup will be hosted by India.
