The Turkish Football League Federation indefinitely suspended all matches after a club president punched a referee at the end of a Super Lig match.

Real Research, an online survey app, revealed that 86% of the respondents were aware, while 14% were unaware of the Turkish football league’s suspension.

  • 8 out of 10 think the  Turkish Football Federation’s form of punishment is justified.
  • 77% believe the Turkish Football League’s suspension would tarnish Turkey’s international football image.

Turkish Football League’s Suspension

Respondents were asked if they supported the Turkish Football League’s suspension indefinitely following the physical assault of the referee.  They responded, “Yes” (50%), “Unsure” (27%), and “No” (23%), respectively.

A Club President Punched a Referee

89% of respondents (somewhat agree: 48.15% + strongly agree: 40.83%) agreed that the attackers, including the club president and two other suspects, should face severe punishments for their involvement in the incident.

The Turkish Football Federation

The Turkish Football Federation (TFF) condemned the “inhumane and despicable” attack on the official. 82% of respondents (somewhat justified: 46.42% + strongly justified: 35.65%) think the TFF’s response is justified. On the contrary, 18% believe the response is unjustified.

Criminal Proceedings Initiated Against Attackers

The Turkish Football Federation stated that all criminal proceedings against the attackers had been initiated. Respondents were asked how satisfied they were with the response.

The responses were “somewhat satisfied” (41.82%), “very satisfied” (33.78%), “neutral” (20.53%), “somewhat dissatisfied” (2.30%), and “very dissatisfied” (1.57%), respectively.

Turkish Football on the International Stage

77% of respondents (somewhat agreed: 44.97 + strongly agree: 31.98%)  agreed that the Turkish Football League’s suspension would tarnish Turkey’s image on the international football stage.

How Effective Is This Form of Punishment?

Finally, respondents were asked how effective they think the indefinite suspension of matches will be in preventing similar incidents in the future. This survey on the Turkish Football League’s suspension over punching a referee revealed that 50% of the respondents think the indefinite suspension is somewhat effective, 35% think it is extremely effective, and 16% found it not effective at all.
