Three men were sentenced to eight months in jail and banned for two years from entering any football stadium where La Liga and Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) matches are played, following their involvement in racially abusing Real Madrid star Vinicius Jr.

Real Research, an online survey app, revealed that 65% of respondents were aware that three had been sentenced to eight months in jail for the racial abuse of Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior, and 35% were unaware.

Racial Abuse of Real Madrid Star

Nearly 82% of respondents (agree, 56.56% + strongly agree, 25.42%) agree with the eight-month prison sentence and stadium ban given to the three fans found guilty of racially abusing Viniciuis Jr. However, 16% of respondents disagree with the eight-month prison sentence, and 2% strongly disagree.

Vinicius Junior’s Opinion on the Sentence

Vinicius Jr. made a powerful statement on X, declaring, “I am not a victim of racism; I am a tormentor of racists. This first criminal conviction in Spain’s history is not for me but for all black people.” His stance resonates strongly with the public, as 81.48% of respondents support his approach (44.62% strongly support, 36.86% support), while 15% remain neutral.

However, a small percentage disagrees with his stance, with 2% strongly opposing and 1% completely opposing his position.

Racism in Football

Respondents were asked whether they agreed with FIFA President Gianni Infantino’s statement that individuals with racist behavior should be excluded from the football community. In response, 50% of the participants expressed a neutral stance, 44% agreed with the statement, and 5% completely disagreed.

Defendant’s Letter of Apology

Vinicius joined La Liga, Real Madrid, and RFEF in bringing the case to court, where the defendants read a letter of apology during the hearing. In light of this, 58% of respondents believe the defendant’s letter of apology was a genuine act of remorse, and 42% believe otherwise.

The Future of Football

Finally, the survey on three people being sentenced for the racial abuse of Real Madrid star Vinicius revealed that 69% of respondents believe this conviction will lead to more rigorous actions against racism in football in the future, and 31% do not think so.
