Al Jazeera has highlighted Palestinian suffering in Gaza, sparking global outrage at Israel. Supporters argue that the network does solid work, and Israel wants to censor it.

In light of this, 68% of the respondents agreed that Israel shutting down Al Jazeera was an attempt to censor reports exposing its conduct in Gaza, and 32% did not agree.

Al Jazeera to Close Local Operation

Israeli officials justified the closure of Al Jazeera, citing it as a national security threat. The prime minister announced the decision on social media following a unanimous cabinet vote.

Similarly, 83% of respondents (possibly: 46.16% + absolutely: 36.82%) think Al Jazeera poses a “threat” to national security.

Are Journalists at Risk?

Al Jazeera countered Israel’s accusation that it threatened Israeli security, citing that it was a “dangerous and ridiculous lie” that puts its journalists at risk. 60% of respondents think it is likely that Israel’s accusation against Al Jazeera potentially puts its journalists at risk, and 40% said it was unlikely.

The Temporary Closure of Foreign Broadcasters in Israel

Israel’s parliament ratified a law last month that allows for the temporary closure of foreign broadcasters considered a threat to national security. 67% of respondents anticipate the closures of even more foreign broadcasters in Israel 33% do not.

UN Condemns Al Jazeera Shutdown

The UN human rights office also condemned the shutdown in a post on the social media platform X. Respondents were asked about the likelihood of Israel reversing the shutdown of Al Jazeera sometime in the future.

The majority, 83% (somewhat likely: 53.24% + highly likely 29.74%), think it is likely that a reversal of Israel shutting down Al Jazeera will take place.

Finally, respondents were asked if they thought Israel was right to shut Al Jazeera down. A survey on Israel shutting down Al Jazeera revealed that 61% of the respondents think Israel shutting down Al Jazeera was the right thing to do, and 39% don’t think so.
