Streaming platforms like Netflix offer a wide selection of movies and TV shows. Netflix is home to a large collection of award-winning movies, outstanding drama series, and captivating documentaries. It has become a part of pop culture. Netflix users tend to share passwords so multiple users can share the same account. To combat this, Netflix recently introduced a new subscription model. The extra charge will apply to subscribers outside of one household.

Hence, Real Research — the online survey app, conducted a survey on the public opinion on Netflix’s new pricing model. The survey focused on how users are responding to Netflix’s password-sharing rules. In addition, what do people think about Netflix charging for password sharing? Also, respondents reveal their reason to subscribe to Netflix. Lastly, the survey talks about Netflix cracking down on password sharing.

Respondents Share Their Opinion on the Price of Netflix Subscription

To begin, the survey asks respondents if they have a Netflix subscription. In answer, 84.70% say ‘yes’ and 15.30% say ‘no’.

Furthermore, the survey asks which Netflix plan they are using. Answers are as follows: Basic (69.08%), Standard (19.39%), and Premium (11.53%). Accordingly, the survey asks if the respondents are satisfied with their Netflix subscription price. In response, 54.10% are ‘very satisfied’, 21.04% are ‘satisfied’, 18.28% are ‘neutral’, and 6.58% are ‘not satisfied’.

The Majority Are Sharing Their Password With Other People

Next, the survey asks what is the respondents’ main reason to subscribe to Netflix? On this, 54.67% say the contents they want are on Netflix. In addition, 14.63% say they can enjoy global content from all over the world while 7.69% say there is a variety of content. Lastly, 5.35% say Netflix’s original series are great and 1.68% say it is convenient to study foreign languages.

Likewise, on Netflix password sharing, respondents reveal if they share their Netflix password with anyone. In reply, 77.70% say ‘yes’ while 22.30% say ‘no’.

In addition, the next question about Netflix password sharing asks respondents who they are sharing their password with. In answer, 73.40% said family, and 12.80% said friends. Also, 7.22% said relatives. Furthermore, 3.59% said girlfriend/boyfriend while 2.51% said colleagues.

68.45% Will Not Cancel Despite the New Pricing Model

Netflix password sharing may not be very convenient anymore as Netflix changed its pricing model. Accordingly, the survey asks respondents if they are aware of the new feature where subscribers will pay extra if account users live outside one home. In reply, 76.29% say they are aware. In contrast, 10.02% are not aware while 13.69% have heard about it but are unclear about the details.

The next question asks respondents how they think the new pricing model will affect Netflix. In response, 50.34% say it will be a success and will bring capital inflow from new subscribers. Meanwhile, 17.90% say it will be a success as there will be a possibility of producing more competitive content.

Likewise, 11.23% say it will be a success and there will be high subscriber loyalty. In contrast, 6.33% say it will be a failure and can weaken competitiveness in the OTT market. Lastly, 5.61% say it will be a failure and cause subscription cancellation.

Besides this, respondents share if they would like to keep their Netflix account despite the new pricing model to combat the Netflix password sharing issue. In answer, 68.45% say they do not plan on canceling. Meanwhile, 15.44% say they will probably downgrade to a lower subscription tier. Lastly, 9.85% say they might consider canceling it while 6.26% say they will definitely cancel their Netflix subscription.

To conclude, the survey asks respondents if they can cancel their Netflix subscription and switch to another OTT service, which service would they switch to? In answer, 51.99% chose Amazon Prime Video, 20.59% chose Youtube TV, and 6.74% chose Disney+. Lastly, 2.96% chose Apple TV and 2.53% chose HBO Max.
