Leaders play an important role in any organization. To bear the responsibility of any group or organization requires specific qualities and qualifications. These qualities of a leader should lead, nourish, guide, and support the team through their collective goals.

As such, these qualities and qualifications can be subjective, and society has varying opinions about such requirements. Thus, Real Research — the online survey app, launched a survey on the qualifications and qualities of a leader. The survey seeks public opinions on what qualities they feel a leader should have. Here are the results.

 The Major Quality Leaders Should Have Is ‘Accountability’

The qualities of a leader survey starts by asking respondents what are the qualities of a good leader. In reply, 47.42% say accountability, 14.11% say intelligence, and 9.24% say communication skills. Moreover, a further 3.99% say integrity, 3.74% say determination, and 2.69% say both patience and insightfulness. Additionally, 2.43% suggest professionalism while 2.04% say tolerance.

Next, the survey asks what leadership traits should a good leader have. In answer, 38.61% say ambitious, 12.07% say competency, 11.85% say hardworking, and 11.55% say leaders should be wise. Meanwhile, 4.54% say leaders should be logical, 3.27% say strategic, 3.22% say creative, and 3.06% say realistic.

Additionally, the qualities of a leader survey ask respondents what a good leader should be. On this, all 45.54% say to be professional at work, 14.12% say to understand people well, while 10.29% suggest providing a clearer vision. Moreover, 6.51% say a good leader admits mistakes and motivates the team (6.08%). Lastly, 4.77% say has control over personal information and 4.23% suggest maintaining fair interpersonal relationships.

The Best Great Leaders of All Time

The survey then asks who is the greatest leader of all time. To this, 38.69% chose Winston Churchill, 12.25% chose Abraham Lincoln, and 9.81% chose Martin Luther King, Jr. Furthermore, 7.90% chose Mahatma Gandhi, 7.52% chose Nelson Mandela, 5.13% chose Bill Gates, and 4.48% chose Mother Teresa.

Further on, the survey asks ‘do males have better leadership than females?.’ Here, a majority of 67.10% feel men have better leadership skills than women, whereas 9.18% feel women are better. However, 23.72% feel both are competent.

42.71% Consider Themselves a Leader

The survey then asks respondents whether they see themselves as leaders. In response, 42.71% say ‘most definitely’, 19.13% say ‘definitely’, and 9.58% say ‘definitely not’. Meanwhile, 28.58% are neutral.

Additionally, the survey asks what leadership skills respondents already have to become a leader. A majority of 56.97% say active listening while 12.57% say keep learning to encourage personal and professional growth. Adding on, 7.76% suggest the skill of taking responsibility for their words and actions. Likewise, 5.76% say keeping their word, 5.07% stay connected with team members, and 4.53% feel they act with consistency.

To conclude, the survey asks respondents whether they think leaders are born or trained. The majority (68.12%) say leaders are born while 31.88% say leaders are trained.
