Psychologists claim that having a pet for children is a great opportunity to teach them how be responsible. More so, a pet is a great source of love and comfort. For many, keeping a pet creates a life full of happiness and joy. In addition, pets are not limited to dogs and cats. People are keeping reptiles and birds as pets too.

Real Research launched a survey on having a pet. The survey asked respondents question like ‘main reason why you have pets?’ and what is the average cost of owning your pet per month? Likewise, what are the big expenses of owning a pet? Here are the results.

The Majority 66.77% Keep a Pet as They Love Animals

Real Research asked its respondents if they have a pet. 78.23% responded with ‘yes’ and 21.77% replied with ‘no’. Furthermore, the survey asked what kind of pet they have, to which, 54.72% said they have a dog as a pet.

Also, 21.46% said they have a cat as a pet. Meanwhile, birds are the top-most choice for 6.56% and 6.12% said rabbits. The rest chose pets as displayed below.

The survey then asked ‘what is the main reason to have a pet’? To which, 66.77% said because they love animals. 6.01% said their family wanted one, and 5.77% said they wanted another friend. Moreover, 4.52% are keeping a pet for security reasons.

50.18% Believe Pet Food Is the Biggest Expense for Owning Pets

When asked about the average cost of owning a pet per month, 65.30% said it is less than $100. Moreover, 14.96% said $100-$200, and 5.78% said $200-$300. Meanwhile, 3.91% said $400-$500 and 3.71% said $300-$400. Lastly, 6.33% said more than $500.

Next, the survey asked what is the biggest expense when it comes to owning a pet. In response, 50.18% believe pet food such as treats is the biggest expense for their pet. In turn, 10.65% said toys are expensive for pets and 10.46% said training. Similarly, 8.86% said grooming, and 5.38% said vaccinations.

51.27% Feel Extremely Satisfied With Having a Pet

Furthermore when asked what services respondents like to use as a pet owner,40.15% chose pet insurance and 19.60% said pet medical services. In addition, 7.82% chose pet training and 6.35% chose pet photoshoots.

To add on, 5.49% chose pet care services and 3.04% chose pet grooming services. Lastly, 2.81% said pet funeral services, 2.65% said pet travel services, and 0.95% chose pet walking services.

To conclude, the survey asked, ‘How satisfied are you with owning a pet?’. Here, 51.27% feel ‘very satisfied’, and 18.84% feel ‘satisfied’. In contrast, 11.37% said they are unsure, and 4% said they are ‘not satisfied’ with having a pet.
