The Titanic was a luxury British liner that tragically sank after hitting an iceberg in April, 1912. The tragedy involving 2,224 passengers and personnel became the most famous maritime disaster of the 20th century. The Titanic has become closely rooted with our history and culture, it even got its own movie in 1997.

To celebrate the 110th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic, an iconic recreation of the original called the Titanic ll is set to launch in 2022. Thus, Real Research launched a survey seeking public opinions on Titanic and its replica, Titanic ll. Here are the results.

Highlights

The Majority Have Heard of the Titanic

To begin, the survey asks if respondents have heard of the World’s largest and luxurious passenger liner from 1912  — the Titanic. Here, 92.45% said ‘yes’ and 7.55% said ‘no’.

Following after the survey asks how respondents found out about the Titanic. A majority of 61.86% say they found out from the Titanic movie, while 10.71% said ‘TV’, and 9.25% said ‘drama series’. Additionally, 3.55% said ‘YouTube’, 3.34% said ‘documentary’, 2.02% said ‘books’, and 1.63% said ‘animation’.

Next, the survey asks about the various theories about the Titanic sinking. Here, 52.58% say ‘the hull is divided into four main parts’ while 17.02% say ‘lower break theory’. Furthermore, 8.45% chose James Cameron’s theory and 6.57% chose Mengot’s theory. Lastly, 5.32% said ‘V-shape theory.’

Furthermore, the survey proceeds to ask what titanic conspiracy theories respondents have heard of. First, 48.44% suggest J.P. Morgan — millionaire banker, plotted the Titanic disaster to kill rival millionaires on board. Second, 17.81% say the Titanic was part of an insurance fraud that was switched with its sister liner, Olympic.

To add, 13.11% chose ‘defective rivets’, 7.74% say ‘an amateur sailor’s inexperience in guiding the ship’, dnd 6.79%say  ‘a cursed Egyptian mummy caused mysterious destruction and disaster in the UK’. Lastly, 4.92% say ‘a fire below deck just before colliding reduced its strength’.

Following up, the survey asked if the aftermath of the sinking was dealt with well. A majority of 74.21% voted ‘yes’ while 25.79% said ‘no’. Next, the respondents reveal if they would like to go to an exhibition held in the UK to mark the 110th anniversary of the Titanic. Most say they would love to (63.91%) and 21.33% say they wish to go if given a chance.

Next, the survey asks about awareness of Titanic ll, the replica of the original, setting sail in 2022. More than three-quarters (75.52%) responded ‘yes’ and 24.48% said ‘no’. Moreover, the survey asks if respondents would like to travel on Titanic ll, given that it plans to follow the same route and costs $100,000. The majority say ‘yes’ while 24.42% say ‘no’.

Accordingly, the survey asks why respondents would like to travel on the Titanic ll. More than half (52.90%) say ‘to experience the Titanic, like back in the day’. Likewise, 30.11% want to be part of the legendary story and 7.52% say Titanic ll comes with advanced navigation and safety equipment to detect icebergs.

Adding on, 5.57% say ‘many cruise ships and passenger liners are sailing well nowadays, thus safety won’t be a problem’. Finally, 3.46% say ‘the shipbuilder will do everything to not repeat the same tragedy’.

To conclude, the survey asks why respondents would not want to travel on the Titanic ll. A majority of 47.14% say ‘I do not want to be part of the tragedy’ and 16.83% say ‘I still believe the Titanic is doomed and cursed’. In addition, 10.97% say ‘it will remind me of the spirits of the victims who still float around the Titanic’. Lastly, 9.19% have no time for travel and 13.53% are uninterested.
