The need to conserve mother nature has become more pressing in the recent years. Every year, several parts of the world celebrate World Nature Conservation Day to raise awareness about protecting the environment.

The relentless human exploitation and the degradation of the environment cause society to face a lot of global crises. As a result, climate change and other environmental concerns caused unusual weather patterns that became the norm across the world. For this reason, Real Research gathered public opinions on this defining issue of our time through a survey on awareness of World Nature Conservation Day (July 28).

Celebration of the World Nature Conservation Day

Every year on World Nature Conservation Day, the world joins together and pledges to protect mother Earth. Accordingly, the survey on awareness of World Nature Conservation Day asks respondents whether they are aware of the annual celebration, 74.41% are aware, leaving only 25.59% unaware.

Given the depressing reality, it is tempting to give up and assert that there is nothing we can do to solve the situation. But surrendering will not get us far. It does not take a superhuman effort to become an environmental warrior. Not only during World Nature Conservation Day, but every day, people from all walks of life can do things to protect the environment and carry out numerous green initiatives themselves.

Thus, the survey asks respondents about the actions they take to do their part in contributing toward a greener future. In response, most (40.71%) observe the 3Rs (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle). Others practice measures like switching to sustainable resources (11.16%), saving electricity (9.81%), and conserving water (9.64%).

The survey continues by asking what the main reason could be to protect the environment. Here, protecting humanity is vital for 47.91%, whereas 16.14% want to maintain the balance in the ecosystem. While 9.91% desire to give the future generation a better place.

Climate Change, the Most Pressing Environmental Concern

Undeniably, human activities have not been in favor of protecting the planet, which in turn resulted in major environmental concerns. The survey conducted about World Nature Conservation Day reveals that climate change is the most pressing issue in the home country of 41.5% of respondents. Others suffer from problems like pollution (15.52%), acid rain (9.84%), and industrial and household waste (8.6%).

Greenhouse gases are one of the major causes of adverse climate change, and various industries, additionally, contribute to this emission. The survey reveals that 49.95% believe the Transportation sector generates a significant volume of greenhouse gases. Others blame the manufacturing industries (14.47%), electric companies (13.95%), and the agriculture sector (9.04%).

Consequently, the survey asks respondents’ opinions on what can minimize the effects of climate change. 60.5% believe reducing gas emissions will minimize the consequences brought by climate change. While some (20.61%) believe in individuals taking their part by simply planting trees, others (18.1%) think financing for technological advancements would greatly help.

Countries Around the World Fighting Climate Change

Reports show that several countries are striving hard to take their part in improving the environment in various ways to reduce the effects of climate change. Survey findings show that 35.78% are familiar with China being the world leader in wind power. Others are aware of the following: the USA with 50,000 wind turbines (16.4%), Scotland as a coal-free country (12.5%), and Costa Rica has achieved 99% renewable energy (8.76%).

Similarly, the survey asks if the government of their home country has implemented any projects to help the environment. In reply, 39.67% had their administration conduct more than one, and another 12.15% had a project. Some had it sometimes (17.55%), and 11.22% did not.

Eventually, the survey concerning World Nature Conservation Day concludes with 36.39% of respondents believing it is still highly likely to resolve climate change. Another 17.15% agree to likely resolve the issue. However, 11.64% believe otherwise.
