India attempts to deal with a diplomatic crisis due to Nupur Sharma’s remarks, who is a Hindu official from Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP). In detail, Nupur Sharma made offensive remarks against the last Prophet of Islam, creating outrage in the entire Muslim world. Consequently, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, UAE, Oman, and Kuwait have registered their protests internationally. Some of the Muslim countries against India are ending their export ties.

A BJP spokesperson said that Nupur Sharma’s remarks do not represent the collective’s ideology, ‘Nupur Sharma against the Holy Prophet’ is just a personal opinion. Due to the diplomatic crisis made by Nupur Sharma in politics, India received diplomatic backlash from Muslim countries. Therefore, Real Research launched a survey on Muslim countries’ diplomatic backlash against India over Nupur Sharma’s remarks about Holy Prophet. Specifically, the survey aims to find how the public feels about such situations. Here are the results.

Awareness of the Diplomatic Crisis Due to Nupur Sharma’s Offensive Comments

The survey starts by asking whether respondents are aware of the offensive Nupur Sharma remarks against the Holy Prophet of Islam. In response, 81.05% say ‘yes’ and 18.95% say ‘no’.

Consequently, Muslim countries have protested and India faced diplomatic backlash due to the crisis. The survey asks respondents if countries should cut off diplomatic ties with India. In response, 55.53% say ‘yes, they should boycott India’, and 13.77% are unsure. Moreover, 10.06% feel ‘no, it is freedom of speech’.

Furthermore, 7.95% feel ‘yes, and any Muslim country not speaking up against India should be criticized’. However, 6.82% suggest that no one should hurt the sentiments of other religions or cultures. Lastly, 6.07% feel that politics should not be mixed with religion.

Spotlight on the Diplomatic Backlash by Muslim Countries

The Indian government and BJP claim these remarks do not represent their ideologies. The Real Research survey asks respondents what steps will help avoid such future incidents. In response, the majority (50.19%) suggest ‘she should be punished severely’ whereas, 15% remain unsure. However, 10.63% express that she should never represent any political party.

Consequently, 10.29% feel ‘she must apologize to Muslims around the world’. Likewise, 7.27% suggest ‘she should be punished for expressing her personal opinions’. On the contrary, 7.08% chose to say that freedom of speech allows her to say anything.

Further on, the survey asks if respondents have heard of other similar incidents before. To this, a majority of 46.53% replied ‘Yes, this is not the first time such an incident occurred’. Following that, 16.19% feel ‘such incidents happen all the time’. Moreover, 11.43% believe ‘I have heard controversial remarks about other religions and religious sentiments too’. Lastly, 6.36% said they do not remember any similar incidents.

Accordingly, the survey asks if tension can escalate among the masses, given that India has a large Muslim population. 45.38% of respondents agree that it can create political unrest, and 17% think it can trigger a Hindu-Muslim clash.

Whereas 8.06% believe it’s just one person’s view, people will ignore it eventually. However, 6.31% think it could trigger fights worldwide between the Muslim countries and India. On the other hand, 4.37% feel overseas Hindus will face more problems due to this.

Respondents’ Verdict on Nupur Sharma Against the Holy Prophet

Next, the survey acquires respondents’ views about Nupur Sharma facing punishment like the death penalty for her remarks on Holy Prophet. On this, a majority of 60% suggests ‘yes’, whereas 22.18% are unsure, and only 18.15% reply ‘no’.

To conclude, the survey asks how respondents feel about Nupur Sharma’s remarks against Holy Prophet. Almost 44% feel ‘angry’, 11% feel ‘sad’, and 6.29% expressed they were ‘upset’. Meanwhile, 5.91% of respondents were ‘worried’, yet 4.01% said they were ‘disappointed’. On the other hand, 3.14% of respondents felt ‘numb’ and 2.91% were ‘nervous’.
