The term Left-Wing or ‘Leftists’ describes the political ideologies that support matters such as freedom, equality, fraternity, rights, progress, reform and internationalism. Contrastingly, Right-Wing can be categorized by their emphasis on authority, hierarchy, order, duty, tradition, reaction, nationalism, etc. Elsewhere, in Latin America ‘Pink Tide’, rose to power as Left-Wing governments took charge in Mexico, Argentina, Chile, and Peru.

The Left-Wing or Pink Tide is predicting a more equal and balanced society; however, others have their contrasting opinions. For this reason, Real Research– an online survey app launched a survey on Pink Tide in Latin America. To highlight, the survey seeks opinions on the government and the policies by left-wing governments in Latin America. Here are the results.

Highlights:

  • 40.04% say the Right-Wing failures were mostly due to the onset of the poor Covid-19 response
  • 40.75% support legalized abortion as one of the Left-Wing’s main policies implemented
  • 70.85% say the Pink Tide will win the coming elections

The Majority Are Aware of the Pink Tide in Latin America

The survey seeking opinions on the Left-wing in Latin America starts by asking respondents if they are aware of the Pink Tide in Latin America. 81.14% answered yes, whereas, 18.86% answered no.

The survey then asks why respondents felt that the Ring-Wing governments failed in Latin America. In response, 40.04% suggest the ‘poor response against Covid-19 pandemic’, whereas, 21.66% suggest rising inflation. A further 11.64% suggested the surge in youth unemployment rate.

Additionally, 6.74% chose economic polarization due to income inequality, whereas, 5.43% chose corruption, such as political collusion. Whereas some 3.1% also suggest the prevalence of crime.

The Majority Support The Policies Implemented By the Left-Wing Governments

Next, the survey on Pink Tide in Latin America asks which of the main policies implemented respondents are in support of. The respondents suggested legalizing abortion (40.75%), allowing Euthanasia (14.47%), protecting the rights of indigenous African communities (7.35%), pension reforms (5.24%), sustainable policies such as prohibiting mining activities (4.66%), and free education (2.87%) among others.

The survey also asks if respondents believe that the Pink Tide will negatively impact the relations between Latin American countries and the US. 55.48% say ‘yes, the US influence over Latin America will wane, where China’s presence will be strengthened.’ 17.97% say ‘yes, the relations will change due to anti-Americanism by Left-Wing governments.’ Whereas, a further 7.88% say ‘yes, the US influence will weaken in Latin America due to other regional issues like the Russia-Ukraine war.’

Furthermore, 5.54% also say ‘no, the current Pink Tide parties have weaker anti-Americanism unlike in the past,’ leaving 4.98% who believe that a ‘pragmatic relation will be maintained with the US for the sake of economic policies. Lastly, 4.75% say ‘no, the concerns regarding Pink Tide will push the US to improve the relations.

Left-wing Governments– Will They Win the Elections?

Accordingly, the survey asks respondents’ opinions on whether they feel the Left-Wing government win this election. To this, 70.85% say yes, whereas, 10.64% said no.

Lastly, the survey asks what respondents’ thoughts are on the Pink Tide in Latin America. A majority of 47.09% feel ‘positively’ towards the Pink Tide government, leaving 23.38% with neutral feelings. However, 9.65% felt negative sentiments concerning the Pink Tide in Latin America.
