Christmas is a merry season and one of the most festive celebrations observed around the world. Every year on December 25, various celebrations are held by several countries and by diverse communities in society, may it be a part of their religion or their culture, or for other reasons.

Christmas can be of varying significance to anyone and is an important holiday characterized by many well-loved traditions. On Christmas Day, most churches hold services, people eat lots of holiday foods, and gifts are exchanged on Christmas Eve.

With Christmas just around the corner, a survey launched by Real Research, an online survey app, attempted to gather statistics on the number of people who will celebrate Christmas this year and their plans. The survey on how to celebrate Christmas analysis further highlights the following:

  • The favorite Christmas tradition of the majority (11.55%) is attending religious services

47% Are Completely Booked With Plans for Christmas

Roughly 7 in 10 (68.74%) have plans to celebrate Christmas this year. Only 20.93% do not have, and the rest (20.93%) remain unsure.

In fact, 47.84% have their Christmas day fully booked. 21.14% have the day almost filled with plans, and 9.8% say there are not enough plans set yet. On the other hand, the rest are left without plans set (12.55%), and 5.41% are sure of not having any plans for Christmas day.

Why Do We Celebrate Christmas?

Not everyone celebrates Christmas on the exact same day– December 25. Survey results reveal that most (25.44%) celebrate it on Christmas Eve (the night of December 24). Others start to celebrate it around October(15.15%) and even as early as September (14.41%).

The survey asked for the reason why people celebrate Christmas. Respondents said it’s part of religion (34.44%) and culture/tradition (19.32%). Others mentioned it’s a reason to spend the holiday (18.04%) and time with loved ones (13.78%).

Christmas Traditions Through the Years

Among the several ways to celebrate Christmas, the favorite Christmas tradition of the majority (11.55%) is attending religious services. In comparison, 10.72% love to feast on Christmas dishes, and 10.1% like setting up Christmas decorations.

Similarly, 12.17% have celebrated Christmas as a child by attending religious services. 10.96% “pretended” and waited for Santa Claus. However, 12.01% did not experience celebrating Christmas as a child.

Christmas this year would be observed by respondents in various ways. These include attending gatherings (11.37%) and religious services (11.16%), buying and giving gifts (8.56%), and pretending to wait for Santa Claus (8.47%).

Christmas Gift-giving Tradition

To whom the respondents prefer to celebrate Christmas this year, many said with their Families (42.98%). Others would spend Christmas with their partners/spouses (16.58%), relatives (11.48%), close friends (7.93%), and neighbors (7.45%).

Although the Christmas gift-giving tradition has always been observed by so many, 20.69% say it is not important. But for the majority of survey respondents (42.79%), it is very important.
