Art styles and artists have been unique in different cultures. Different forms of art provide inspiration and a deeper understanding of life for every creative individual. Similarly, as time passes, culture, inspiration, and history influence genres of art. In detail, in contemporary art, shapes and colors are the dominant elements, and art lovers deconstruct the meaning of it subjectively. Art styles and artists mostly work subjectively for all kinds of art lovers and everyone can interpret them freely.

Hence, Real Research — the online survey application, launched a survey on public preference on art styles and artists. The survey focused on the most popular art movements and styles. Also, it asked respondents about painting styles and techniques. More so, respondents share the most interesting type of art in their eyes. Here are the results.

Respondents Talked About the Types of Art They Find Interesting

To begin, the first question regarding art styles and artists asks if respondents enjoy appreciating works of art. A whopping 93.43% say ‘yes’ and 6.57% say ‘no’.

Furthermore, the survey asks ‘what type of art interests you?’. The respondents chose Painting (46.73%), Drawing (19.40%), Photography (11.65%), and Crafts (6.82%). In addition, Sculptures (5.18%) and Ceramics said (3.66%).

Furthermore, talking about art styles and artists, another question asks respondents what art style they like most. Here, 63.11% chose ancient art while 9.75% chose medieval art. Also, 9.51% chose modern art, 8.52% chose early modern art, and 8.29% chose contemporary art.

Whilst inquiring about art styles and artists, the survey asks respondents whose artwork is their favorite. In reply, 47.04% chose Leonardo da Vinci while 12.04% chose Michelangelo. As well, 6.78% chose Rembrandt, 5.68% chose Raffaello Sanzio, and 3.52% chose Jean-Francos Millet.

Accordingly, the next question asks which greatest masterpiece would respondents like to see for themselves. In answer, 55.50% chose Mona Lisa by Leanardo da Vinci. Likewise, 10.22% chose The Last Supper by Leonardo da Vinci, and 5.23% chose The Statue of David by Michelangelo. Lastly, 4.03% chose Creation of Adam by Michelangelo and 3.45% chose Venus de Milo by Milo.

Next, the survey asks respondents which country’s art style they like most. In response, 47.97% chose France while 16.97% chose Italy. Then, 8.23% chose Spain and 4.30% chose the Netherlands. Lastly, 3.71% chose Austria while 2.59% chose Belgium.

52.29% Enjoy Oil Paintings the Most

Moving ahead, the survey asks about what genre respondents prefer. Here, 50.14% chose Landscape while 18.68% chose Portrait. Meanwhile, 13.76% chose still life and 8.01% chose History painting. Lastly,8.75% chose genre painting that depicts aspects of everyday life.

The next question asks respondents which painting style and techniques do they enjoy most. On this, 52.29% say oil painting, 12.24% say acrylic, and 11.91% say pencil sketch. Lastly, 7.26% say watercolor painting, 4.41% say color pencil sketch, and 4.20% say charcoal.

Moreover, respondents talked about the criteria they base to appreciate art styles and artists. Starting off, 53.04% say art that uses unique painting techniques, 12.66% say art that conveys political messages, and 7.23% say realistic art that represents the subject matter truthfully.

Likewise, 6.94% say abstract art that provokes thoughts. In addition, 6.58% say avant-garde art that pushes pre-existing boundaries. Lastly, 3.72% say art that is straightforward and easy to interpret.

\to conclude, the survey asks respondents why they enjoy appreciating art. A majority of 51.15% say it helps them understand themselves through art while 13.46% say they can feel the background of the time and life of that artist. Likewise, 8.86% say they can enjoy a variety of techniques. Also, 8.83% say art has a healing power to comfort and encourage people. Lastly, 7.53% say art enhances creativity and imagination. and 4.58% say it is fun to interpret messages in one’s own way.
