With the politics of the Russia-Ukraine war still unfolding and various countries imposing sanctions on Russia, other crucial concerns such as oil, commodities, etc., are setting in. As a result of the war, France aims to reduce reliance on Russia overall. One way to do this is via energy independence. Thus, they cut ties with Russia, approaching other countries such as Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE.

France’s move gathered widespread concerns as well as opinions. For this reason, Real Research launched a survey on France signing energy deal with UAE to wean off Russian gas imports. Here are the findings.

France’s Energy Agreement With UAE– Majority Are Aware

The survey on France UAE energy deal starts with a poll on whether respondents are aware of France’s ‘strategic’ energy deal with the UAE. 76.49% say they are aware, leaving 23.51% who are not.

The survey then asks what direct impact the respondents’ home countries have from the Russia-Ukraine war. 42.03% suggest rising commodity prices, while 22.95% suggest fuel prices, and 12.29% say recession. An additional 8.43% also suggested the rising cost of living, with 6.79% who said slower economic growth rate (e.g., GDP).

Accordingly, the survey on France UAE energy deal asks at what percentage have the fuel prices risen in respondents’ home countries. Up to 45.14% say by less than 40%. Others have it higher by around 40 to 50 percent (17.51%), 50 to 60 percent (10.55%), and 60 to 70 percent (6.36%).

France’s Take on the Energy Agreement

The French government said, “In the current uncertain energy context, this agreement will pave the way for a stable long-term framework for cooperation, opening the way for new industrial contracts.” Accordingly, the survey asks if respondents agree with this statement. 45.9% highly agree, whereas 19.47% agree, with 21.05% neutral. However, 6.92% disagree, while 6.65% highly disagree.

Next, the survey on France UAE energy deal asks what respondents think of France’s complete ban on Russian gas. 45.54% feel it was the right decision made according to the current international situation. Moreover, 20.35% feel it is time to accelerate the development of alternative energy.

A further 16.65% say there is a need to expand gas reserves. However, 16.31% say it is a chance to reduce energy consumption, both at home and in businesses.

Moreover, the survey also asks respondents if, like France, other nations should reduce their reliance on Russian gas imports in response to the Western sanctions. In response, 42.75% feel most definitely so, whereas 19.31% say definitely, leaving 23.39% neutral. 7.42% however, say definitely not.

Measures To Impose Sanctions on Russian Oil & Gas

As tensions between various countries increases owing to the Russia-Ukraine war, these countries have begun oil sanctions against Russia, Russian products, gas, oil, etc. As such, the survey asks what practical measures can be taken to impose sanctions on Russian oil and gas. 45.11% suggest a complete ban on Russian oil and gas. While some (19.51%) suggest reducing oil imports from Russia, others (14.08%) instead say to import oil from other countries.

On the above, a further 10.17% suggest using more sustainable resources. However, 10.02% suggest the use of more sustainable products.

Lastly, the survey on France UAE energy deal asked respondents if oil sanctions on Russia would possibly bring a halt to the Russia-Ukraine war. 71.27% say yes, definitely. 28.73%, however, say no, it does not matter.
