India Banning LGBTQ+ People From Donating Blood

The 2017 guidelines on blood donor selection and referral, issued by the National Blood Transfusion Council and the National Aids Control Organization under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, prohibit certain individuals from donating blood. Discrimination against LGBTQ+ people in India is evident, as they are not allowed to donate blood. 48.90% of the respondents strongly oppose this discrimination against LGBTQ+ people in India.

Discrimination Against LGBTQ+ People in India

Many activists and critics, who say the rule of excluding LGBTQ+ people was determined by fear and discrimination rather than medical science, are filling out petitions and calling on the government to follow other countries and scrap the ban. 54.05% of the respondents think this ban, which basically shows discrimination against LGBTQ+ people in India, should be abolished.

HIV/AIDS PANDEMIC

Critics point to the blood donation ban as evidence of ongoing discrimination against LGBTQ+ people in India, despite the decriminalization of homosexuality in 2018. 41.17% of the respondents find it somewhat likely that India will follow the global trend of lifting bans on blood donation by LGBTQ+ individuals.
