Public Concern on COVID-19 Vaccine Related Deaths

COVID-19 post-vaccination deaths have made international headlines. As a result, multiple locations around the world already administered COVID-19 vaccines. Alongside this, one of the public’s concerns is — how many have died from the COVID-19 Vaccine?

Recently, the Norwegian Medicines Agency (Noma) reported that 23 people had died after receiving their first dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.

Do people think COVID-19 vaccines should still be administered despite alleged post-vaccination deaths? Real Research conducted a public poll to find out the public concern on how many have died from the COVID-19 vaccine. We’ll also see if the public still feels safe about the vaccine amid this news.

Awareness of People on COVID-19 Vaccines Deaths

Notably, 69.98% are aware of the news about COVID-19  vaccine-related deaths. Meanwhile, only 30.02% are not aware of it.

Respondents from different continents answered the survey in which the majority are Asians. Firstly, the majority of respondents came from Asia (63.57%). Secondly, Africa (14.36%), then thirdly, Central America (5.78%). Following then, North America (5.03%), South America (4.63), Caribbean (2.61%), Europe (2.34%), Middle East (1.25%), and Oceania (0.43%).

Risks of COVID-19 Vaccines

We cannot blame the public if they are scared of vaccines nowadays as death is not something people will take lightly. With that said, 32.09% of the total respondents think that the greatest risk of the COVID-19 vaccine is a severe allergic reaction.  Fortunately, vaccination providers have medicines available to effectively and immediately treat patients who experience anaphylaxis following vaccination.

On the other hand, 32.74% believe that health hazards on old and terminally-ill people are the major risk of getting a vaccine.

Besides, before deciding to get a vaccine, people ask — what are the side effects of the COVID-19 vaccine? Specifically, 22.44% of the respondents say that this is the major risk that they are worried about. Meanwhile, 12.73% believe that there are other risks that they are mindful of regarding this vaccine.

How Effective is The COVID-19 Vaccine?

Do you think COVID-19 vaccines should still be administered despite post-vaccination deaths? 47.36% agree that vaccines still need to be given to people.  On the other hand, 23.02% said ‘no’ to this. Similarly, 29.62% do not know if they think the vaccination will be effective.

Both Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech said their COVID-19 vaccines appear to be effective against two variants of concern which were first identified in the U.K. and South Africa.

Moving on, is the COVID-19 vaccine safe long-term or does the public think it is not? Moreover, when asked if they still feel safe about the vaccines, 36.06% agreed that they still feel very safe about it. The majority of the respondents seemed like they felt safe as it shows a small difference between those who answered ‘somewhat safe’ and ‘very safe’. Meanwhile, 23.13% of them are neutral on this question, 7.92% feel somewhat unsafe and 4.40% are firm that it is very unsafe.

Conclusion

To sum up, public concern on COVID-19 vaccine-related deaths seems to be a mix of reactions based on these findings. The majority of the respondents said that they are aware of the vaccine-related deaths but still almost 36% of them feel safe about it. Meanwhile, over 32% of the total respondents think that the greatest risk of the COVID-19 vaccine is the severe allergic reaction.
