People follow different diet plans to reduce body weight or to live a healthier lifestyle. Generally, weight gain does not happen only due to eating unhealthy food. It could also stem from a lack of exercise and one’s unique lifestyle choices. In fact, physical health is related to genetics, lifestyle, environment, and sometimes poor medical care.
In today’s world, people are mostly following diet plans to reduce weight and fit societal parameters of having a nice body shape. However, some people are focusing on adopting a healthy lifestyle while others are focused on crash diets. So, why do people fail at a diet, and what makes a successful diet? To find out, Real Research — the online survey app, launched a survey regarding what people think about diet and how they observe diet plans.

33.22% Choose to Diet To Look Good In The Mirror
To start off, the survey asked when do people feel the need to diet. On this, 33.22% said that they start doing a diet when they look in the mirror and feel fatter than before. Meanwhile, 16.25% said they start a diet when their clothes don’t fit.
Only 7.56% said that they start following a diet when someone tells them they have gained weight, then, 7.74% of respondents said they worry about their health hence start a diet. Lastly, 5.61% said they take inspiration from someone fit.
The next question in the survey asked respondents, what they like to eat when on a diet. Here, 27.20% say they prefer protein drinks to maintain energy and 9.41% say they like to eat chicken. On the other hand, 10.29% prefer boiled eggs as a nutritious and healthy source, 3.13% eat whole wheat, and 3.08% like oatmeal respectively.
30.91% Prefer Doing Gym Workouts While on a Diet
Next, respondents reveal what workouts and sports they prefer when on a diet. In response, 30.91% said they like to do gym workouts that include building muscle and losing fat. Likewise, 14.19% like to go jogging, and 9.54% prefer personal training.
Meanwhile, doing Yoga and Pilates is preferred by 5.37% of the respondents. A very small number of 0.44%, 0.93%, and 0.35% follow Zumba, Swimming, and Jump Rope, respectively. Lastly, 7.33% prefer home workouts. However, 78.05% admit to having tried home workouts.
Accordingly, respondents reveal their preferred Youtube channel to watch during workouts. On top is XHIT Daily with 28.62% of the votes. Then, 7.83% picked POPSUGAR fitness, 5.20% chose Chloe Ting, and 2.37% said Athlean-X.
75% Have Successfully Achieved Desired Results by Following a Diet
To conclude, the survey asked respondents if they have successfully followed a diet. In response, 75% said ‘yes’. According, the last question asks why some fail to stick to a diet. The majority (32.59%) responded that they fail because they don’t have a diet partner.
Moreover, 16% blame weak willpower while 9.09% say it is due to an increase in appetite. Also, 5.96% say psychological stress. Lastly, the burden of regular exercise and starvation in the diet is the reason according to 3.47% and 3.64% respectively.
