Everyone has told atleast one lie during their lifetime. However, this does not make them habitual liars. Besides, some only tell polite lies to keep from hurting someone’s feelings. Moreover, some lie so they don’t have to reveal brutal truths.

Similarly, some people tell their spouses white lies to avoid repeated fights. In addition, some children have a frequent list of most common lies to not get in trouble with their parents or teachers. Thus, Real Research — the online survey application, launched a survey on the most common lies we tell. Here are the results.

‘I Am Not Mad’ Is the Most Common Lie Spouses Tell Each Other

To begin, the survey asks respondents what is the most common lies lovers tell each other. A whopping 36.84% say the most common lie is ‘I’m not mad/I’m fine’. Following this, 20.08% say the most common lie is saying ‘You are right’.

Likewise, 11.34% responded they lie by saying ‘You are my first love’. In addition, 9.77% admit to lying about not receiving their partner’s call. Similarly, 7.76% lie to their partners about being friends with someone and 5.12% say they lie about not having been in love with their ex.

The next question asked what is the most common lie you tell to your parents. Here, 35.43% say the most common lie is saying ‘I’m on my way home’. On the other hand, 24.05% say it is saying ‘Everything’s fine!’ and 18.98% chose the phrase ‘I forget’.

Likewise, 7.19% lie by saying they need money for books and 5.81% say they lie about being sick to avoid school. Lastly, 3.91% say their most common lie is the phrase ‘I was late getting home because of traffic’ while 3.54% say the most common lie is saying ‘I’ll just play one last game’.

36.56% Lie at Job Interviews Saying They Don’t Care Much About Salary

Next, respondents reveal the most common lie told at job interview. The majority (36.56%) say they lie about not caring about the salary expectations. Also, 20.47% lie about being a team player while 15.30% lie saying ‘I’m happy to work late and on weekends’.

Moreover, 14.87% lie by saying ‘I’ve always wanted to work for your company’. Lastly, 7.59% lie by saying ‘Your company philosophy means a lot to me’ and 3.75% lie by saying ‘The long commute doesn’t bother me’.

Accordingly, the survey asks respondents about the most common lies they tell at a company get-together. The majority (40.01%) say the most common lie is saying ‘I can’t drink alcohol’. Following after is 13.98% who say ‘I’m on medication’, 12.09% who say ‘I’m not drunk at all, I’m fine’, and 11.10% who say ‘I’m never drinking again’.

Then, 10.68% lie in order to leave early by saying ‘Something’s come up, I have to get going now’. Lastly, 6.32% lie by saying ‘Let’s have just one last drink’ and 4.28% lie by saying ‘I’ll leave after this drink’.

48.37% Lie About Being Sorry Even When They Are Not

To conclude, the survey asks respondents ‘What is the most common white lie you tell’? In response, 48.37% admit to lying and saying ‘I’m sorry’. Following after, 15.57% say the most common white lie is in the form of compliments like ‘You look amazing’.

Meanwhile, 11.36% say the white lie is ‘I’ll call/text you’ while 10.36% say the while lie is ‘I’ll be home early’. Lastly, 6.90% lie to people saying they don’t need to lose weight and 6.34% lie about food tasting good.
